Call for nominees–Lawrence/Douglas County Bicycle Advisory Committe

The Lawrence/Douglas County Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC) is seeking nominees for one of two positions appointed by the chair of the Douglas County Committee. The appointee will serve out the remainder of the vacated term through December, 2012, and will be eligible to serve 2 three-year terms thereafter.

Nominees are encouraged to attend the next BAC meeting, to be held on at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, in the Public Works conference room on the lower level of city hall, 6th and Mass in downtown Lawrence. The BAC meets at 6:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. Nominations may be made by e-mail or in person to BAC members or to city or county commissioners. Self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged. If nominating another candidate, please provide contact information for the nominee.

Candidates must be a resident of Douglas County or any city therein, and should have an interest in cycling issues, advocacy, and improving the atmosphere and culture of cycling in Lawrence and Douglas County. The BAC provides a communication link between the City and County Commissions and the community on bicycling related issues.  The BAC works to improve bicycle facilities, bicycle safety and bicycle awareness through education of motorists and non-motorists; review, update, and oversee the distribution of the city’s biking maps; seek information from multiple sources on current trends, programs, and facilities outside the local area; and promote bicycle awareness by coordinating activities with the city, county, the school district, universities, citizens and local bicycle clubs.

If you’re interested in serving cycling and the greater community as a member of the BAC, please submit your name to any BAC member or commissioner (names available on the Lawrence website at http://lawrenceks.org/advisorybds/board_rosters/Bicycle_Advisory_Committee.html)
