Kansas is Now Enforcing No-Texting-While-Driving Law

The state of Kansas is now cracking down on motorists who text and drive.  A new law went into effect last July 1, Don't Text and Drivebut after a six month warning period, police will now enforce it.

The new law also makes it a violation to read or write email messages while driving.  The new law does makes an exception for emergency weather alerts and reporting illegal activity.  Drivers caught texting and driving, motorists could face a $60 fine plus court costs.

Kansas is one of 30 states that have enacted a no texting-while-driving laws.

Capitol Classic

The Capitol Classic is a showcase for the very best in Topeka area cycling. The Capitol Classic has always been known for its great SAG food with fresh fruit and snacks. The Capitol Classic starts and finishes at Lake Shawnee’s Tinman Circle in Topeka.

The Capitol Classic offers four ride lengths: a Family Fun Ride of 16 miles, 25 miles, 62 miles (Metric Century), and 100 miles. All three of the longer routes will pass by the Topeka landmarks of Lake Shawnee, Forbes Field and Heartland Park Speedway, and the two longest routes will include the Topeka cycling fixture known as “Puke Hill”.

The Capitol Classic is hosted and organized by the Kaw Valley Bicycle Club (KVBC). The ride follows paved secondary roads and county highways, and includes SAG stops, minor repair service and sweep vehicles. Transportation back to the origin will only be provided in the event of illness or accident.

Cycle Casa – Manhattan KS

Cycle CASA is an annual event that features a great day of bicycling in and around Manhattan, KS. Choose from a metric century (100 km or 62 miles) or fun rides of 10 or 30 miles roundtrip.

The metric century ride circles Tuttle Creek Reservoir from Manhattan through the towns of Olsburg, Randolph, Riley, and Keats. The casual fun ride follows an out-and-back route connecting Manhattan, Keats, and the town of Riley, and cyclists may turn around at any point along the route for a customized distance.

Your participation in Cycle CASA will support Sunflower CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates), a nonprofit organization that trains and supervises volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system. In 2008, Sunflower CASA’s volunteers advocated for 138 children in Riley, Clay, and Pottawatomie Counties.

USA Cycling Lanterne Rouge 10 K Time Trial

1. All USAC Rules apply.

2. Race will be held rain or shine.

3. CPSC approved helmets are required at all times.

4. Promoterreserves the right to adjust start times, distances, alter the course, remove rider(s) from race, cancel, and or combine categories and prize list as necessary on the day of the race.

5. Fees include the $1.00 KCA Fee and $3.00 USAC Insurance Fee.

6. One(1) day licenses are available race day at the registration table.

7. Parents or guardian must sign release form for all riders under the age of 18.

8. All junior riders must participate in a rollout when entering any event. .

9. Sheriff protected course(course is NOT closed)

10. Personalized Medals, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
